* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Several days in a row of hot temperatures with little relief from overnight low temperatures can increase heat stress on the human body.
โ ๏ธ Recommended Actions:
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
๐ What to Expect:
Pollutants within those areas are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range.
The Air Quality Alert is in effect for the following Michigan counties:
Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Van Buren, and Berrien.
Warm temperatures, ample sunlight, and southwest winds will mix with pollutants to produce surface-level ozone in west and southwest Michigan.
It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in nose, throat, or eyes.
People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which can lead to ozone formation. These activities include: refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling, using gasoline powered lawn equipment, using charcoal lighter fluid.
Positive activities include: driving less, telecommuting, delaying or combining errands.
