Midweek update

Almost all of Scootercam’s essential functions have been rewritten and improved by AI, and rebuilt as WordPress plugins. And I’m a bit stunned. I’ve been using Claude AI ($20 a month, so I need to finish soon). I’ve run into usage limits and Claude’s propensity to overthink solutions, but it’s been pretty solid. to The code, for the most part, goes beyond what I expected. Even the documentation is impressive.

For example, I wrote code that downloaded text forecasts for this area and for nearshore marine, and pulled chunks out so I could display it the way I liked. Now we have a WordPress plugin that uses this shortcode:

[scootercam-24]

to do this:

TimeConditionsTempWindPrecipVisibilityUV
23:00 rain Rain, Overcast 44° N @ 5 100% 5.2 mi 0
02:00 rain Rain, Overcast 48° NW @ 15 77% 8 mi 0
05:00 rain Rain, Partly cloudy 46° NW @ 14 74% 6.9 mi 0
08:00 rain Rain, Partly cloudy 45° NW @ 13 65% 10.1 mi 0
11:00 rain Rain, Partly cloudy 47° NW @ 14 62% 10.1 mi 1
14:00 rain Rain, Partly cloudy 49° NW @ 14 48% 10.1 mi 2
17:00 rain Rain, Partly cloudy 48° NW @ 13 48% 10.1 mi 1
20:00 rain Rain, Partly cloudy 45° NW @ 10 58% 10.1 mi 0

Some of the plugins have settings pages in WordPress, like the group below from the Sun and Moon plugin. This add a tone of new shortcodes, like

[scootercam_sunset_score]

which produces

🌅
Tonight's Sunset
56/100
F
Sunset at 6:52 PM

Description: Below average sunset conditions

Coming up

  • Make sure all the plugins are efficiently using the same styles – most all of them will need to be rewritten, but I want everything to look nice and clean.
  • Create Git repositories for all the plugins and be able to pull the latest versions.
  • Double check the README files, make sure they’re right.
  • Complete the /notes blog structure: the staged WordPress site, LLC notes, the plugins, the journal, and room for more later.
  • Start shopping for a new webhost.
